Did you know that the price of diesel fuel has increased by 93 per cent in only the past eight years and that driving a car with tyres that have just 0.5 bar pressure below that recommended, increase fuel consumption by 5 per cent? In our ecodriving course, we provide both theoretical and practical answers to questions on whether choice of gear affects level of fuel consumption, how to take off correctly in your vehicle for the most economical use of fuel, and whether slower driving leads to more economical driving.
The ecodriving course is primarily designed for professional drivers who drive a great number of kilometres each year. Experienced AMZS instructors estimate that drivers who complete the ecodriving course decrease their fuel consumption by 6 to 9 per cent, on average. Therefore, a truck driver who covers 100 000 kilometres per year will save up to 2 000 litres of fuel, and the corresponding amount of money.
The ecodriving course is a full day course with a one-hour break for lunch. In order to get the most from this course, we recommend that participants register with their own vehicles.
In the short theoretical component, participants learn about the basics of their own car, about driving conditions, how to correctly plan for driving, and different driving methods and techniques. The instructor will discuss the correct use of modern vehicle devices that lower fuel consumption.
The practical component is carried out in the two parts, using the participants' own vehicles. The first part takes place before the theoretical component - participants perform a test drive on the circuit, recording their fuel consumption. The second part takes place after the theoretical component. With the help of the instructor, participants learn about all of the factors that influence fuel consumption and ecodriving. They learn how to correctly control their vehicle, and no longer drive 'by feeling', but by keeping an eye on the tachometer. Participants learn about correct clutch use, how to select the right gear, and effective braking. At the end of the practical component, participants carry out a second test drive on the same section of track as the first, but with the benefit of the knowledge and skills they have acquired during the ecodriving course.
